Creative Classroom Collaboratives

We know her as a fabulous teaching artist who is collaborating with Long Island teachers and students through the (C3)2 grant. However, Lucienne Pereira is also an internationally-known visual artist who has exhibited her work in the US and abroad. Currently, Ms. Pereira's large-scale textile work and interactive art is installed at the Art League of Long Island's Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery in Dix Hills, NY. The exhibition, "An Aesthetic Approach to Adaptation," runs through May 27, 2016.

An explanatory label beside an artwork made of hundreds of wood pieces (below) tells the viewers that the work "is about all of us on a journey in search of a place of comfort." Cards are provided for visitors to write down a thought, memory or a poem that has carried them along their journey. Ms. Pereira collects the cards each week and transcribes the messages onto the wood pieces.

In another site-specific textile installation (below), the work flows from one gallery floor to the level below it.
