In August, our very own teaching artist Kendra Mace invited people of all ages to dance and twirl umbrellas in a downtown Riverhead alleyway. Dancing in the Rain, an interactive dance installation developed by Ms. Mace, was part of this year’s JumpstART. The one-night event, presented by East End Arts, offered a range of artistic presentations, from public art installations to musical performances, dance and interactive exhibits.
Ms. Mace’s interactive dance was inspired by actor Gene Kelly’s iconic performance in the film Singing in the Rain. Visitors were invited to twirl umbrellas, dance and splash through a cool mist. A video of the performance (below) will have you wanting to grab an umbrella.
